Walter Brooks, a Massachusetts publisher, makes a great point about web development strategy in a column for Editor & Publisher, the venerable U.S. newspaper industry journal. Describing senior newspaper editors who don't know how to log on to the web, he points out a problem that crops up in many publishing operations beyond newspapers :

Making decisions about your newspaper's web presence without being online daily, is like starting a new Polish language newspaper in Warsaw without reading and speaking Polish yourself. When enough lineage is lost, when enough journalists get laid off, when the "number crunchers" get through with us, good old American capitalism will fix it.
