EP Interactive Values Forum Intranet payback: 1000% ROI, partly by chopping the print budget Netscape has been promoting a new International Data Corp. (IDC) report with case studies of big companies that have implemented intranets (internal Internets) for corporate communications. IDC IDC claims a 1000% return on investment for most intranets, achieving value mainly by cutting the time it takes for people to find information and communicate corporately. The kicker is that the out-of-pocket savings comes from the elimination of printing. In
the Amdahl case, for example, the customer bought less than $100,000 of intranet hardware
and software and cut $1 million over three years in document distribution costs. It's not
quite the "paperless office," but it's getting close.
