COMPANY DESCRIPTION
The International Informatics Institute (in3.org) is a technology research and
consulting organization with offices in Brooklyn, New York and Hadlyme, Connecticut.
Founded as the Graphics Research Laboratory in 1982 by director Jack
Powers, the firms research associates consult with users and vendors of
information and communications technologies, electronic commerce strategists, and
interactive media firms.
Director Jack Powers serves as Conference Chairman of Penton Media's INTERNET WORLD events, the largest Internet
business expositions and conferences in North America. He develops the curriculum and
picks the speakers for the U.S. shows and supports 27 international INTERNET WORLD events
in 26 countries.
Working for corporate clients, government agencies and industry associations, the firm
publishes the results of its research in numerous books, journal articles and video
programs.
For commercial, corporate and government clients, the International Informatics
Institute's user engagements fall into four broad categories:
- Internet Opportunity Studies explore a clients informatics
options in Internet, intranet and extranet development and help build online
strategies that fit each organization's markets, expectations and competitive needs;
- Electronic Commerce/USA Projects offer a comprehensive
package of consulting, executive education and research supporting non-U.S. firms that
want to do business in the North American online marketplace;
- Technology Audits provide extensive in-depth analysis of
equipment, personnel and procedures, reviewing current production operations, recommending
new systems and techniques, and anticipating future needs; and
- the Executive Education Programs teach working professionals about the
evolution of the digital age and keep them up-to-date on technologies and practices.
Clients range in size from the Childrens Television Workshop to Brazils
Editora Abril and in application from United Stationers to the Associated Press, from PC
World, Black Enterprise and Folio to the National Academy of Sciences, the Federal
Reserve, the Central Intelligence Agency.
For systems vendors, GRLs primary focus is marketing and strategic planning,
especially for opportunities bridging the conventional and interactive media fields. The
firm provides strategic planning services, market research, dealer network development,
industry-specific sales training, product development, market analysis and acquisitions
consulting for equipment manufacturers and software developers. A special focus in 1999 is
the emerging amrket for Internet devices and appliances that extend IP connectivity beyond
the desktop PC.
Vendor clients range in size from multi-nationals like Apple, AT&T, IBM Europe and
Xerox to smaller organizations like the Associated Press, MicroPro and Polychrome to young
companies and start ups like Advanced Pen Technologies.
In addition to technology and operations consulting, IN3.ORG technologists have created
demonstration systems in database design for catalog publishers, hacked unique interface
solutions for PC typesetting, produced production-line software for electronic manuscript
handling and provided systems integration for corporate and commercial clients.
